Mythological Significance
According to legend, the Panch Kedar temples are associated with the Pandavas from the Mahabharata. After the Kurukshetra war, they sought Lord Shiva’s blessings for absolution. Shiva, avoiding them, disguised himself as a bull and dived into the ground, reappearing at different places. The arms of Lord Shiva are believed to have appeared at Tungnath, giving it immense religious importance.
Trek to Tungnath
- Starting Point: Chopta (also called the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand”)
